An installer that tells you what to do.
Opening the download now shows a proper window: drag mactooloud onto Applications, eject, done. Installing it properly is also what lets automatic updates work. Opening the app from Applications now brings its window up instead of hiding in the menu bar.

Your trial follows your account, not your Mac.
Signing in is now required to start the 7-day trial, and the countdown lives with your account — so it survives reinstalls and moving to a new Mac. The installer also offers the Applications folder properly, which is what lets automatic updates work at all.

A proper door, not a dead end.
The signed-out screen used to look like something had broken — a few elements adrift in an empty window. It is now a framed card with a reminder of what mactooloud does, for anyone coming back after a while.

The app actually opens now.
0.1.0 crashed on launch — its resource bundle was never copied into the app, so it died before drawing a window. This build fixes that, and ships a Universal binary so Intel Macs are included as promised.

1.0 groundwork — signed, notarized, and updating itself.
The first public build of mactooloud. Everything from the beta, now Developer ID signed and notarized by Apple, with Sparkle auto-update wired end to end — this is the last version you will have to install by hand.
- NewAutomatic updates. mactooloud now checks for new versions on its own and installs them in place. Every update is verified against an EdDSA signature before it runs, so a tampered download is refused rather than installed.
- NewSigned and notarized by Apple. No Gatekeeper warning, no right-click-to-open dance. The disk image itself is signed too, so the download is tamper-evident before you even mount it.
- ImprovedPer-app volume rides on macOS 14.4's Process Tap API — no kernel extension, no HAL plugin, nothing left in
/Library/Audio/Plug-Ins. The engine lives inside the app and disappears when you quit it. - ImprovedApps that spawn helper processes — Chrome, Slack, Discord, anything Electron — are grouped under one slider, so "Chrome at 50%" means every tab, not whichever child process happened to be first.
- ImprovedAn app sitting at exactly 100% with no routing override uses no tap at all, so the common case costs nothing.

Authorizationheaders were being dropped across a domain redirect; the app now re-attaches them within its own domain and is immune to that class of misconfiguration. - FixedSleeping, waking, and swapping output devices no longer strands audio on a device that went away.
Beta — mactooloud is mixing.
First beta build of mactooloud. The full mixer, auto-duck, Mystery Sound Finder, Whisper Mode, per-app device routing, and saved audio profiles are in. We're sanding down the rough edges before the 1.0 release.
- NewPer-app volume sliders in the menu bar. Every audio-producing app on your Mac gets its own row with a live waveform and a slider — and only the apps actually making sound show up.
- NewMaster output picker in the main row and menu bar widget. Switching outputs flips the macOS system default and pulls the master slider to the new device's actual volume.
- NewPer-app device routing. Send Zoom to AirPods, Spotify to desk speakers, FaceTime to your USB headset. Routes survive slider movement and persist across app restarts.
- NewAuto-Duck on calls. Triggers: Zoom, Meet, FaceTime, Discord, Slack huddles, Microsoft Teams. Targets: every other audio app. Configurable threshold, ducking amount, and release time.
- NewMystery Sound Finder. Surfaces every audio-producing process plus the specific tab inside Chrome, Safari, Arc, and Edge (read-only — click to bring the tab forward).
- NewWhisper Mode. One tap drops every app to 5%. Tap again to restore.
- NewSaved audio profiles. Save a "deep work" preset, a "meeting" preset, a "gaming" preset — pick between them from the menu bar. Every slider, mute state, and per-app route is restored in one click.
- NewPomodoro focus timer. 25-on / 5-off by default, fully configurable, with optional volume cues at phase transitions.
- NewSleep timer with a master fade so audio drops gently when you nod off.
- NewHeadphone-disconnect → pause. Yank AirPods out and music pauses; intentional output switches don't.
- NewNo driver. No installer. Built on macOS 14.4's Process Tap API — the engine lives inside the app, not in /Library/Audio/Plug-Ins/HAL.
- NewApple Silicon native, hardened-runtime signed (Developer ID).
